Loving Chalkboard Paint

Okay, so after all of these months and months of hearing everyone else in the blog world gush over the wonders of chalkboard paint I've finally decided to jump on the band wagon. Embarassing as it may be for me to admit, I may be slightly interested in following this trend.

Earlier this Summer I painted three large antique frames white to hold paintings in the dining room. But now I'm not certain that I want to commit to any colors in my Black and White dining room. I just love being able to change colors with my moods, the season, and the occasion! So I'd like to make magnetic chalkboards to fit in my three antique frames instead.

I'm planning to try these directions on Ehow.com. Isn't the internet great?

Isnt' this perfectly glamorous and fun?

I'm also planning a little fun with some chalkboard paint and a ceramic vase that needs new life. It's a great style, but the eggplant color is just yucky.

And I've been gushing over the lovely mirrors and chalkboards made from antique cabinet doors by RowansRoom on etsy! This is hands down my favorite shop on Etsy!

  1. I so love the look of chalkboard paint. I think you'll really enjoy it if you give it a try. I like the pictures you found - the house with the chalkboard in the kitchen is one of my favorite pictures. Hope you have fun with the project. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  2. In a total contradiction, I hate chalkboard paint. When I moved into my place, one of the rooms had chalkboard paint on one wall and dark blue magnetic paint (for letter magnets) on another wall. It was a tiny room so that dark colours made it look a lot smaller, but to paint over it was an absolute nightmare.

We had to sand the wall back as much as possible and then undercoat them a couple of times. And still, one of the walls is slightly magnetic. I would suggest that if you want chalkboard paint in a room, completely make it on a piece of board and attach that to the wall instead. Otherwise you will be tearing out your hair when you want to re-decorate later on.

  3. Thanks for the advice Mel! Sounds like what you went through was pretty horrid! Fortunately, I'm not planning to paint any big spaces with the chalkboard paint anytime soon, just decorations. :)
